Abstract: A survey on the consanguineous marriage of ` She’ ethnic group w as carried out in three districts ( xiangs) of Fujian Province. The total number of marriages studied w as 6335, among them there were 54 consanguineous marriages, with 92. 5% taking place between the first cousins o n maternal side. The percentage o f consanguineous marriage and average inbreeding coefficient w ere 0. 85% and 5. 72× 10- 4 respectively. The percentage o f mix ed marriage w as 41. 81% . The rate o f hereditary diseases among the children ( 0— 14 y ea rs) of consanguineous marriages was significantly higher than that of marriages between nonrelatives.
